Arts Sector Rally to Save the Arts

Play Resource staff joined hundreds of others from Northern Ireland’s arts sector on the Keep Our Arts Alive Rally, at Stormont on Monday 10 December 2007. The Rally was supported by the Arts Council, and organized in a bid to save the arts and to improve the allocation contained within the Draft Budget 2008-2011.

10 December 2007

The arts in Northern Ireland are in danger of dying from neglect.  That was the message of artists, arts professionals and supporters who gathered at Carson’s statue at Stormont to make a public call for increased arts funding.  In the bigger picture, large amounts of funding are now being redirected as a result of the 2012 London Olympics, which is having a drastic knock on effect on funding for the arts.

It was a noisy, colourful turnout.  Dressed in costume and carrying the tools of their arts and banners, supporters presented the Chair of the CAL Committee, Barry McElduff, with a letter which calls upon government to rethink the final budget settlement.  To see more images of the rally or find out more about the campaign visit Keep Arts Alive.
