Titanic Scrap Boats

This month sees the launch of an exciting series of art summer schemes as Play Resource partners with Belfast City Council and the Titanic Foundation. The project is part of the planned celebrations for April 2012, when the new building opens in the Titanic Quarter with nine interactive galleries. The chosen theme for this art project is Titanic Past, Present and Future.

Lead Artist Jim Russell is responsible for the artistic concept and will create one final larger exhibition piece to include all the local groups artwork.  We will keep you updated as the project develops but for more information visit Titanic Quarter.

Wicked Cone Witch

This little scrap witch is very easy to make! You will need masking paper, newspaper, cardboard cone, masking tape, paint and pipe cleaners.

Natures Harvest

Autumn is the perfect time of year to give children an opportunity to be creative using materials gathered from the forest and park. In the pdf file examples are produced by participants on artist Laureen Magill’s Creative Outdoors workshop at Play Resource.

Autumn Change

Autumn is a magical time of year that yields an abundance of natural materials such as conkers, twigs, acorns, cones, seed pods and leaves.

Why not bring natural materials into your work with children by giving them the opportunity to explore outdoors, gathering natural materials and getting inspiration from the autumn season.
An autumn table is a great way of bringing the outdoors inside, it can become a centre piece that will stimulate discussion, creative activity and learning. Taking children for a walk in the local park to gather natures harvest is also a perfect way to promote health and well being. Provide each child with a bag to collect their finds and a little mirror to look for birds in the trees. Challenge them to catch a falling leaf or sycamore helicopter.

Christmas Frieze for Early Years

The Christmas frieze for Early Years was created as part of a workshop by artist, Jess Webb. This activity will give young children an instant result from a simple printing technique using sponge and ready mixed paint. It will also offer them an opportunity to explore colour, shape and textures through the collage techniques used to decorate the trees.

Festive Window

Decorating a window for Christmas is easy and fun to do. Our examples, painted by staff at Play Resource, filled the shop window adding warmth and festive cheer to our building!
