Titanic Scrap Boats

Titanic Scrap Boats

This month sees the launch of an exciting series of art summer schemes as Play Resource partners with Belfast City Council and the Titanic Foundation. The project is part of the planned celebrations for April 2012, when the new building opens in the Titanic Quarter with nine interactive galleries. The chosen theme for this art project is Titanic Past, Present and Future.

Lead Artist Jim Russell is responsible for the artistic concept and will create one final larger exhibition piece to include all the local groups artwork.  We will keep you updated as the project develops but for more information visit Titanic Quarter.

Or be inspired by Jim Russell’s ideas and have a go at your own scrap version of the Titanic using this Titanic Boats Scrap Craft Sheet.

Corex Creatures

Corex available from the Scrap Store, is an excellent and versatile waste material for making models.

It can be worked in the same way as you would corrugated cardboard but it is light, robust and waterproof. The channels can be threaded with pipe cleaners or cut through on one side to form a hinge. Covered with tissue it will still let light through.

Our instruction guide will work you through to a brilliant Corex Creature such as a Ladybird, Spring Chicken or Goose.

Fabric painting

Fabric Painting

Fabric painting is an excellent group activity for all ages from early years to teenagers when done on a large scale. Create a beautiful jungle scene to brighten your centre or choose a seasonal theme – a Halloween banner or a backdrop for a Christmas play.

Fabric painting provides an opportunity to explore the use of a wide range paints and techniques but it is important to remember that if the project is for outdoor use, or if you plan to wash it, you must use paint specifically designed for fabric.
